This one-day course was developed by Field Training Officers to address the needs and concerns of experienced FTO’s.
This class offers discussions on new officers entering the field training program and the challenges they bring with them. This course is recommended for Field Training Officers that have experience training and evaluating trainees in the fields of Patrol, Corrections, and Communications or officers with previous FTO experience looking to re-enter the field.
This course is not designed as a basic certification, rather it provides updated curriculum on training techniques, field training related case studies, developing leadership skills, and introspective in to modifying trainee behavior.
This 9 hour class covers such topics as:
- Generational Leadership
- Standardizing Evaluation Guidelines
- Adult Learning
Each block of study is directed at the Field Training Officer, and ways to improve their teaching, work product, and approach to today’s Officer In Training. Information includes motivating different generations of trainees, career survival for the FTO, and case law review pertaining to evaluations.
Minimum class size 20 paid students
NAFTO will provide the following:
- Instructor fees and travel expenses.
- Class registration is handled by NAFTO

This course has been determined to qualify for 9 hours of AZ POST continuing training credit. Lodging is the responsibility of the attendees. AZ Post will not reimburse for lodging.
