Paul Hasselberger

Paul is a Lieutenant with the Clifton Police Department and currently serves as the Commander of both the Traffic Unit and SWAT Team.

His experience in field training began shortly after he was hired when he was asked to train new officers in an informal orientation program. After his promotion to patrol sergeant in 2011, he collaborated with an existing group of like-minded officers to establish and administer a formal field training program. The program has successfully trained all new Clifton officers for the past 8 years.

From this experience, he established the NJ Chapter of NAFTO to serve as a resource for agencies looking to develop or improve their field training programs. NJNAFTO currently serves as one of the largest state chapters of NAFTO and offers classes on a regular basis. NJNAFTO has also collaborated with several agencies to create or revamp their field training programs. Paul currently serves as the Director of NJNAFTO.

Paul earned dual Bachelor’s Degrees from William Paterson University in Psychology and Sociology and his Master’s degree from Seton Hall University in Educational Development. He has been an instructor for various law enforcement topics including: use of force, constitutional law, defensive tactics, active shooter, Below 100, physical training & instructor development. As a NAFTO instructor, he has had the opportunity to present to hundreds of FTOs in the past two years by way of classes and conferences. He currently serves as the President of NAFTO’s Executive Board.
